The Alameda Park Zoo was founded in 1898 as a deer park at its present location at the south end of Alameda Park to entertain train passengers while they waited for the train to refuel. Currently, it is home to nearly 300 animals representing 90 species, the 12-acre Alameda Park Zoo offers an education center, picnic area, playground and gift shop that’s perfect for families and visitors of all ages.
